Third band from the French label Send The Wood Music, which album fell into my hands is a quintet Idensity, creating their sounds somewhere at the middle of death metal madness and progression. Parisian metalheads starts adventure with music in 2005, so far dropping two albums LPs – “Serenity” from 2011 and just-reviewed by me the latest production under the title “Chronicles.” I admit that Idensity firstly didn't fit to my taste, but after several hearings I verified my standpoint.
Idensity play metal, but not typical variety of metal, where the leader things are percussive blasts, growls and aggressive guitar sounds, of course there is a lot of this type of sound, but the band decided to push this style on his own, original and interesting route. Idensity besides the standard rock instruments also includes violin, supported by a woman who also provides vocals, which together with few of different kinds of oriental, electronic and symphonic patents gives music unique and compelling character. Each instrument on the album creates its own stories. Guitarists play a lot more than just a fast blast, drummer pounding drums in diverse style shows an interesting arrays and interesting licks, so there is no place for boring moments. Next important matter are vocals, growls mixed with melodic parties gives the music more space and a kind of dramaturgy. Another topics are the violin, symphonic inclusions and oriental accretions, so the music takes from many elements creates huge world of multiple colors and emotions. A multitude of threads, unique nature, aggression, pathos, beauty, melancholy and creativity. Music band Idensity certainly appeal to fans of sounds from the bands like: Opeth, Dream Theater and Katatonia, is the similar combination of strength and brutality of metal and progressive forms of expression.
“Chronicles” is a great production, fantastic skills of musicians and imagination in the creation of almost epic structures of the tracks and a wealth of sounds. Damn good and interesting album by fantastic band, which can surprise us another time in future. This record discovers his magic after few hearings. Idensity is a high-flying band.
