2017 has been a mediocre year for music, especially metal. The reason being the lack of originality in the newer releases from older and traditional bands. However, I personally liked a lot of releases from newer bands. That being said, I was stoked for this particular record from Helvetestromb to drop. This Black/Thrash band captured my ears with their debut single, hence making me curious for the album to drop.

As far as their music goes, helvetestromb play a unique blend of the goodness of thrash and the evilness of black metal. This particular stylistic approach has always been a crowd pleaser with a lot of newer acts trying it out for gaining attention. Demonic excrements cursed with life(love that name!) is a 11 track crusher with a lot of hard work and musicianship throwed in. After a good set of openers, the album gets it true shape on the fourth and fifth track which has a killer intro that kinda reminds of a lot of bands that try their style. Original yet crushing. However, it was the sixth track that deserves a lot of listens. I listened to it 3 to 4 times on repeat. The interesting part of the track is that, it has an awesome multi-layered songwriting. Starts off with a traditional doom-esque riff which constantly gets switched and consequently making a thick thrash-esque riff as the main riff. That’s what I call a potential track for making a buyer satisfied.

By the time the last track ceases, the listener will have mixed feeling whether or not to revisit the album. The album is repetitive and quite puzzling when you listen to it for the first time. However after sitting through the album for a good two listens, you will still have a sense of repeatedness yet the album will taunt you to listen again. If only they bordered the track-list to 8 tracks, they would have slayed. That being said, Helvetestromb is a potential band and I am curious to know what future holds for them.
