I love it when an Indian band release new music, especially from those who live 200 km away from me. I’m talking about the thrash metal band, Amorphia. The duo of highly proficient and talented musicians released their debut full length album entitled Arms To Death, this month. Their sound is basically the Old School Thrash Metal played by the likes of Sodom, Overkill and even the mighty Kryptos. Actually, there are a lot of Metal bands releasing stuff in India, but you only get a hand few of bands like Amorphia who does that wholeheartedly.
Amorphia is blessed with a heavy sound and their songs will surely reflect it. Unlike most of the band who try to stray away from the traditional thrash sound by adding sub-sub-elementse Progressive or Technical Metal, Amorphia is a band that doesn’t go soft on any sections whatsoever. Their sound is unrelenting and the breakneck guitar riffs which comes with a solo at the end compliments the drums well and make sure that none of the elements are misplaced. Picking my favourite track from a perfect 8 track album is difficult. But if I did like one particular song more than the rest, it is undoubtedly the third track, Toxic Death. It has a heavy tone mixed with catchy vocals which compels you to listen to the track again.
Arms To Death is a blistering take on Thrash Metal. Amorphia is undoubtedly one of the best metal bands in Kerala or India, in general. Their subtle instrumentation matches the flowing vocals and no doubt, Arms To Death is a fine release. Next time around, add more bass sections and more solos(I’m greedy, I know). That being said, Arms To Death is a must listen if you are a thrash fanatic .
