It’s important to know that the genre we call as “Thrash Metal” is just an experimentation with Hardcore Punk. This evolution made the genre and we got Metallica’s Kill em’ all which really got the Thrash Metal scene on the road. So, Punk is somewhat intertwined with Metal. To get something fresh out to you, there is this melodic punk outfit that I have been following for a while and they dropped a new album. So without further ado, let’s listen to what they really sound like.
Halfwait, a Melodic Punk Rock band whose musical inclination is somewhat similar to that of Green day, Nirvana and a bit Blink 182. Their sound is grungy punk rock that sounds really good together when its done right. Halfwait’s new album The Official is just a pure album to relive the good old days jamming to Blink. Not as brilliant as Blink’s hit sophomore effort, Halfwait’s album is a bit more melodic than that. Melodic in the sense Melodic Guitar sections, not the modernised synth passages. It really is good to finally find a good punk rock album.
The guitar is really good and I wish that the vocals were a bit energetic to match the instrumentation laid on the chorus to give that uplifting feel to it. This album reassures my faith in Australian Punk Rock scene. Known for producing top class bands, Australia does have a good future on the upcoming roster of artists. I really did enjoy the album but I did have some issues with some of the tracks. Basslines are pretty sweet but not omnipresent. However, it might be a problem for me but that doesn’t mean you will hate it as well. Give it a shot and enjoy the album. Give sometime for it to sink into you.
