Blending genres of different cultures can be as hard as mixing oil and water. No matter how you try, you will be left with two layers that are being left improper to mix together. But miracles do happen. Some artists find a way to solve this hypothetical issue by carefully sorting out the elements and mixing them in such a way that the oil is forced to get along with water. Having been exposed to the beautiful sound that an experimental artist Alya writes, I got the gist of what happens if oil and water dissolves completely by itself. She just released a new track, Half of the Sun which is a Sonic rollercoaster through the depths of her experimentation.
Blending Pop, Jazz and bits of Trance provides a strong multi cultural vibe to the song. Clocking in around four minutes, the song is a sonic trip through the depths of this blend. The trance sequence gives a strong back bone to the track which is carried forward using the soaring clean vocals. The instrumentation is done perfectly with a lot of care.
“The English version of ‘Half of the Sun’ came to my life when I finally was feeling absolutely happy with who I am and where I am. This message is in the chorus—’Live in the moment like it would be the one…'” – ALYA
The lyricism is quite brilliant and the focus is all on sonically interpreting her journey in to the music career. Alya excelled in various other fields except Music. She’s fluent in four languages, a classically trained singer and ballet dancer, a visual artist, a performance artist, and a self-taught painter. Moreover, before establishing herself as an artist, she worked as a Journalist. The point is, the career was not handed over to her, she pursued it by herself by working hard and it is quite evident on her music as well.
She is currently putting together the debut album which will be released in two versions, one in English and the other one being written in Japanese. Her music promises the stylistic blend of Pop, Jazz, Japanese Folk, Surf Rock and other classical influences. In my opinion, it would be a great album and judging by her influences, I can’t wait to hear the essence of Japanese Folk on her Trance/Pop sound.
