It is needless to say that the genre we popularise as Thrash Metal was derived from an agressive offshoot of Hardcore Punk or in general, Punk. However, its not the only genre that was later on modified and sub-categorised as a different genre derived from Punk. Post-Punk broke out of nowhere and the scene was not as evident as other Punk scenes. This almost closed the hope for Post-Punk within the Punk community. Fortunately enough, bands like Ruiners are still keeping the scene alive. The band draws influence from punk/post-punk bands past and present. Keeping on a tireless pace of recording and booking D.I.Y. charity shows since releasing the 2016 EP “Wasted Years”, Ruiners are highly respected as one of the most hardworking and high energy bands coming out of the Houston scene.
Carrying the momentum right from their debut effort, Plebian-Ruiners have the talent and the sound to make it big on music industry. They’re a group of talented musicians who like to experiment the sound of Punk keeping it melodic and sophisticated.
Their sophomore effort, Typecast is undoubtedly a firm step towards walking into the road of success. Flaunting 9 tracks of melodic Post-Punk, the sound is undeniable and vicious. Energetic performances make this album very addictive and the amount of flair displayed on percussion and guitars is highly appreciative. Redefining what’s been a terrific genre captivating thousands of fanatics presently, in my opinion Ruiners bring the most compelling phase of Post Punk to the table which serves almost anyone who jam to both OG and New wave of Punk alike. That being said, Typecast is one album that you dont want to regret not listening to.
