ELUSION was founded in 2015 in Belgium. Previously, they released only one 3-track EP in digital format, in 2016.
Belgian’s first full-length album is an ambitious project. The music contains in the album is a rich symphonic metal. Romantic atmosphere dominate there. But also there are a lot of dynamic fragments, it happens even black-metal themes, and also very moody.
The orchestral sounds accompany to rock instruments. And in addition there are a lot insertions of various instruments: keys, piano, brass, string, various percussion instruments, classical guitar, flute and even sitar.
The vocals are also varied, feminine and masculine, both pure or snarling, black-metal screams, children’s and ordinary’s choirs.
The band put a lot of work into creating this album, but it did not quite bring the desired effect. The abundance of the used stuffs did not create convincing whole. The successful songs from “Singularity” are in my opinion: “Choices and Chances”, “The Tales That Trees Tell”, “The Strive” and “Reconciliation of Opposities”.
I think in the music is a lack of spirit, a lack of some attraction for listeners. There are no strong feelings, no drama, no energy or no trance. Often we do not find interesting rhythmic solutions, the rhythms are monotonous. Few attention-grabbing melodies too. None of the musicians stand out, maybe in addition to the female vocalist who is involved.
The last position on the album is an electronic remix of the song “The Strive”. It is nice for a dance floor, but it does not fit the ELUSION style.
I hope that the band has potential and they will show the claw at the next release. “Singularity” unfortunately is a little boring.
