“Chapter Zero” is already FRIJGARD’s third album. The band was formed Anno Domini 2009, in the town of Zeiningen, located in the canton of Aargau, in northern Switzerland, close to the border with Germany.
The basis of the music on the latest Swiss album is melancholic black-metal. Often this style is combined with heavy-metal influences, and sometimes even with hard-rock.
The musicians do not play complex musical twists, but they have mastered their instruments well. They can express different emotions. The vocalist has simple vocal capabilities, but uses them very skillfully. He sings with affection, from the heart. First of all, the music is very melodious and usually sad. But the song “Red Lines Crossed” has a mood of folk fun.
The tracks are well composed, because a time has been devoted to them. They contain calm, moody, but also dynamic fragments, up to sharp BM. There are a lot playing with rhythms and melodies.
This is the music of many colors and shades. In the tracks, a spontaneity and a vitality are often combined with a darkness. We can hear that despite the pessimistic mood of the music, this playing gives joy for Helvetians.
The Music is dark, but a brightness breaks through – the band is closer to the Lightbringer than to the Abyss. All this diversity of expression creates a convincing, coherent form. Super for me.
