Experimental music never ceases to amaze me with all of its glory. More than just the music, I’ve massive respect for all those who have nerves to take it up a notch and add some variety to an overly-saturated genre such as Metal. However, the number of acts getting involved in experimental music is pretty low these days. The underground scene, though looks solid, is getting a little to no exposure to eventually attain mainstream stardom. It’s safe to claim that such musicians are in a fix as to how to grab attention. But, on the other hand, there are certain artists who release an album on very short notice but would get all the attention in the world, for their previous work. Eventually roping more people into their new musical endeavours.

Rainer Landfermann is not at all a stranger for all those who keep tabs on Extreme metal music and it’s evolution. Rainer is best known for his work at Bethlehem, wherein he undoubtedly recorded some of the best extreme metal vocals ever put on an album. Shortly after his departure, fans were disappointed as they were left wanting more. When Rainer announced the release of his solo effort, fans couldn’t help themselves but spread the news as far as they could. The album promised some of the bizarre moments of Avant-garde with a touch of cinematic elements.

“Mein Wort in Deiner Dunkelheit”, which roughly translates to ” My World in your darkness” is a massive release flaunting 10 tracks that has one among the most interesting song structures that I’ve heard from the acts associated with him! The vocals, are indeed the highlight, but the strings included in this album certainly had a profound impact on the entire ambience of the album! Starting from the first track, one could almost hear Rainer screaming his lungs out while bizarre “cries” on the background adds a sense of mystery to the album.

As the album moves forward, the more darker it sounds. It couldn’t be possible without the guet contributions from equally good musicians! If only the drums sounded a bit more organic in terms of production, this could’ve been one among the best Avant-garde albums. It’s just my opinion that as “potato” the album sounds, more raw it is, hence a bit more darker. I know it’s pretty one-dimensional but it is hard to contradict something that you have in your mind, especially when it comes to music.

Overall, it is indeed a great album which could potentially be one among the best works of Rainer, outside Bethlehem. Now, again he’s leaving his curious fans, wanting for more. Hopefully he would carry on this momentum and retain his form by releasing a couple more of such albums in future!
