GRIM COMET was established in 2014 in Madrid. He previously released one EP, one single, one full album and one live album. On all of these releases (I haven’t met any of them) band presented doom / stoner / heavy-metal music.
The latest album is a radical change in style. It has nothing to do with Metal. “Afterlife” contains strong, modern Rock under the sign of the USA. The Spaniards had to listen to a lot of American Rock and Bluesrock.
The songs kick well, except for “In the Dark”, which is a romantic ballad as well as the last song played on the acoustic guitar, the instrumental song – “Azabache”. Individual tracks feature interesting solos. The motto of this album is “the power of simplicity”. The music is simple but is not stupid. There is no buffoonery in it. The music hits directly to the heart. In addition the music involves you while listening, it has a “drive”. The instrumentalists and the vocalist have good skills. But none of them stand out, everyone is professional. They are aware of what they want to play and consistently implement it.
We won’t find a weak song on the album. The album’s production is successful and legible. The mood of the music is positive, it adds energy to the listener. Someone may complain that the compositions are not too complicated. But this is the secret of artistic creativity, because sometimes with the help of ordinary methods is obtained a large effect . For me, “Afterlife” is great!
