Fucking Your Creation Records & Distro / DODSFERD – Interview with Wrath (vocalist / guitarist)

Wrath is best known for masterminding the Greek black metal band, DODSFERD where he fronts the band, plays guitar and writes lyrics. DODSFERD is going on twenty years as a band. Last year, Wrath started a record label, Fucking Your Creation Records. He uses the label to release a variety of heavy music  on limited edition formats. Wrath talked to MetalCentre.com about starting this label, his current releases and what’s going on in the DODSFERD camp.

Why was it important for you to start your own record label, Fucking Your Creation Records?

One of the most important reasons was the dramatic situation that the masses, the ignorant audience and the greedy labels had created over the last years, in order to gain money, fame and popularity from underground art. I promised to myself that I would never follow these fucked up trends and release my own stuff, if I have to, without having to back down from my principles and philosophy or eventually be someone I hate. Underground art is not for everyone and especially not for the masses. Great bands have lost their identity, in order to gain money and fame. Fucking Your Creation Records is an underground label that was created to release underground music. Its purpose is to serve the creator and the ones who respect it and support it within all their powers. I have been in the underground scene for more than 20 years. I know who is loyal and creates music in order to feed the demons in his head and serve his soul with his music and who’s making it for the wrong reasons. My message is clear. I choose the roster of my label according to my philosophy. Bands and projects of mine will be released through my label, as also bands and projects from people I knew all these years and they never betrayed underground art; they are still supporting it without having any second thoughts at all.

What have you learned as a musician releasing records that will help you as a label owner?

All these years I have learned that you must be decent and always support and respect unique underground artists/musicians, who fight and give their mind and soul in order to create such an uncompromising art. Free from any “pimp” from the music industry, they will be able to work better and spread their propaganda exactly as they want it to be.

The name of your label comes from your DODSFERD album by the same name. Why did you decide to name it that?

My second album with DODSFERD, “Fucking Your Creation” was forging a new era for my band at that time. The same goes for my label. It’s a new era for me! A second new era, but for something different! All the hypocrisy, all the lies that the music industry have created and the easy going audience are depicted on this title. Underground deserves respect!

How will you be using the label to release DODSFERD albums? Are you going to mostly release limited edition albums like what you’re already doing with the cassette release of “The Parasitic Survival of the Human Race,” which was originally released in 2013.

I am already cooperating with Transcending Obscurity for releasing my albums so far. I have an excellent cooperation with Kunal and his label, so there is no reason to think of releasing my new albums from my label. On my mind is to release albums, EPs in limited editions with unique items accompanying these releases so they can all see how important is for me and the people who I am cooperating with, to spend time to create something that will prevail in the fade of time.

“The Parasitic Survival of the Human Race” contains the bonus song “Stachtes (Ashes).” Is this track new? Please tell us about this song.

Yes, it is a new song that was written and recorded, especially for the tape format of this uncompromising album of my band. Against all fucked up minds and losers, “Stachtes” was my reply to all the fake posers out there who dared to criticize my band, my philosophy and my music!!!! Against retarded masses and capitalism that are struggling every day to destroy free minds and create useless robots of complete stupidity and apathy! It’s a Greek word and it means “Ashes.”

DODSFERD play raw black metal, but “The Parasitic Survive of the Human Race” is a punk rock/black ‘n roll album. What inspired you to create this crusty album.

I am fan of MOTORHEAD and generally rock n roll music. DODSFERD is the diary of my life. I do whatever pleases the demons in my head. I create because it gives me life. No one forces me to do something I do not wish. Now, about this album, at that period of time I was very angry with the entire situation that the government and European “leaders” had created in order to destroy people and fucking capitalists gain more money from this situation!!!! I created a soundtrack of this era that would be a reminder of this shitty world and our useless greedy “leaders”!!!!

The album also contains a MISFITS cover of “We are 138.” Why did you choose this track? How do you feel about Glenn Danzig and his various bands/projects?

I chose this track because I was feeling that my art is only for the few, only for those who will be able to understand! Total respect to MISFITS and Glenn Danzig! He is one of a kind!

Next year will mark the 20-year anniversary of DODSFERD. How do you feel about keeping this band going for so long? What have you learned over this period of time?

Yes indeed! Next year, it will be officially 20 years of my whole life that I have spent for this world I created in 2001! As long as I create, I will continue! My journey continues, stronger than ever before, till I manage to spread my message in every corner of the world! What I have learned all these years? Never trust anyone and do whatever you have to do, without taking into consideration any shitty opinion of the masses! I am not doing it for the money; I am doing it for the sole creator, for the one who bleeds everyday in order to visit the darkest places of his mind and soul and translate it with his music and lyrics through his world, DODSFERD!

Have you written new material for DODSFERD? If so, do you have a time table for release?

I am in the middle of recording two new albums for my band. The first one is the second part of “Suicide and the rest of your kind will follow” album and the second one, will be the darkest heritage of DODSFERD. There is no certain timetable cause, I have also started recordings with my other bands and projects, which is also taking a lot of time for me. So there is nothing scheduled so far.

You released the debut demo of LEECHES “A Plague in the Heart of Light.” You do vocals in this band. What has been the reaction from your DODSFERD fans?

So far the responses are more than great! But even if they were not good, I would’t care! I never did things for the others!

What do you hope to express with this band?

All the evil that exists in the darkest side of our mind and soul! A tribute to the old days, when black metal was unique and isolated from the masses!

Have you written enough material for a full length for this band?

There are enough new songs for a full album, but we will see as a band what we want to do. We all have our main bands and our priorities right now is to focus on them!

2THEBONE is another band on your label. They play punk rock. Tell us more about this band.

It’s one of the most pure bands in underground rock’n’roll. It’s not a new band though. We have made a lot of live performances together, along with my rock n roll band, DRUNK MOTHERFUCKERS and a mini tour in Greece. That was enough to understand that George Rigas (Vocals, Guitars) the creator of the band is loyal to his music and underground scene! Besides that I am a fan of his band, his music and I was really honored when he accepted to be in the roster of my label! Their EP, “Bless” is officially sold out in tape format and they have started the recordings of two new songs in order to include in the CD format I am going to release through “Fucking Your Creation Records”!

Your bio says the label will not focus specifically on a single genre. How important is having diversity for your label?

It’s important to have people on my roster that are loyal to underground music! Not a particular music genre! I am also influenced by different music genres! I created this label for me and my kind, not for money and showing others how black metal wise ass I am!

You’re releasing some merchandise on your label, too. Tell us about what you’re releasing?

So far I have released 2 different designs of t-shirts for my band, DODSFERD; “Eternal desecration” and “Wastes of life” t-shirts. Both of them were never printed before and they were each limited on 50 t-shirts. Very few have still left. LEECHES and 2THEBONE t-shirts are on my future plans!

Do you have any new bands signed? What can we expect to see in the future?

Till the end of the year I will release a new project of mine, GEOMETRIC NICTATION OF LAMENT’S SPACE (G.N.L.S.), where you can see the official  video of the digital single song, “vulnerable secret” on the official you tube channel of DODSFERD. SARVOK has also signed with FYC Records, an experimental ambient project, the mighty GOMGOMA, a drown doom death sludge band and many more that will be announced soon!
