GOLGOTHA in Spain has the status of the cult Doom Death Metal band, which dates back to 1992. All of its members have experience from other bands such as HYDE XXI, HELEVORN, UNBOUNDED TERROR, SHOCK WAVE, IN WAR, HOLYCIDE and some others. During these 30 years, they released 12 materials, including 4 albums. In turn, “Remembering The Past Writing The Future” is their newest mini-album.
The material presents the classic version of Doom Death Metal, where, of course the atmosphere of overwhelming melancholy interwoven with crushing aggression reigns. The whole thing is immersed in the darkness, through which gloomy and depressive guitar melodies shine through (with episodic keyboard inserts in the background or sometimes leading moments).
Between the heaviness of crashing guitar riffs, sunk in slow paces, there are also powerful and dynamic accelerations, but also calmer, clean guitar sounds.
All this, together with monstrous growls and pure male singing (with two tones, one lower and deep, and the other very delicate, slightly higher, even feminine) reminds the achievements of MY DYING BRIDE or the old ANATHEMA. In addition, there are sometimes like operatic vocals and sinister whispers, and even Metalcore accents in the form of predatory, screaming singing or choral insertions in the style of THERION. At other times, some musical themes evoke the vibe of TIAMAT’s “Wildhoney”.
Despair, frustration, anger and even hysteria dominate here. The music is very majestic, emotional and depressing. This power of the guitars. This monumental mood. These vocals full of seriousness…
The thing about the reviews is that they are subjective. Each reviewer has their own view of music. And I love Doom Death Metal and this music touches me firmly and it will undoubtedly touch fans of this type of music.
