VRADEMARGK, the Spaniards from Barcelona have existed since 2003. “Arrelats” is the fourth album, but the first to be sung entirely in Catalan. As far as it can be said that in Death Metal is a singing. After all, we can hear from these demonic growls and predatory screeams that the lyrics are not English (and the mysterious declamations make it even more clearly). I have always believed that Latin languages fit to Metal, because they additionally emphasize the dark and mystical atmosphere…
In addition to the vocal layer, the beginning of the album also announces that it will not be ordinary Death Metal. The atmospheric guitar’s licks introduce a dark and melancholic atmosphere, which is interrupted by the crushing and brutal force most often oscillating in the areas of Death Metal with a clear element of Black Metal (which can often be heard in aggressive arpeggios).
The variety of tempos (ranging from massive slows through medium drum-guitar speeds to truly hurricane blasts) makes the album is not boring. The musicians often experiment with the pace of instruments and combine, for example, dizzyingly fast drum blasts with calm guitars. In addition, between this death-black-metal storm, they weave melodic solos or atmospheric guitar passages (with slightly dirty guitars) and emphasize the melody of the bass.
“Arrelats” is not only a soulless, crushing force, but also strong emotions… Here, the aggression merges with the melancholy, creating a gloomy and mysterious atmosphere at the same time.
“Arrelats” definitely has a soul… Very dark…
