As the news say, DEKTA is a band from Barcelona (Spain) that was founded in 2015. After the release of the debut album in 2017, in 2021 it was time for its successor… “When Everything Burns”…
A characteristic feature of the band is that its members wear masks made in a similar style and the same “uniforms” (eg custom-made sports shirts or sweatshirts with the band’s emblems), which for someone may immediately remind of SLIPKNOT. Perhaps you could hear some similarities to the way like songs are composed, their structure or the alternating use of contrasting themes (such as aggressive and heavy licks with strong screaming vocals as well as calm, melancholic fragments with clean sung phrases).
However, the main difference is that DEKTA has a very distinct feature, i.e. Groove Metal, the dominant genre in compositions. Their groove themes, i.e. characteristic mighty riffs, specific guitar melody, typical dynamic rhythmics, typical accentuation, both of guitar and vocal, make me begin to suppose that PANTERA strongly influenced the band’s musical inspirations.
DEKTA goes with the times and for their Groove Metal playing they smuggle other genres of Metal, creating a very interesting mixture, in which we will additionally hear a lot of Thrash Metal (typical riffing, solo licks or screaming vocals), a bit of Death Metal (with its crushing heaviness, monstrous growlings) and with the element of Nu Metal. This extreme whole is united by alternative-metal themes with clean guitar passages, chords and clean but very emotional singing as well as very catchy vocal melodies. Overall, the vocalism here is very rich (from clean vocal lines of varying intensity to different colors of screams and growlings).
These musically extensive themes are intertwined, unexpectedly connecting, revealing progressive-metal elements (heard in some solos or extended bass guitar licks).
In summary, the compositions are very well thought out and arranged. Despite their diversity, the songs are consistent. They perfectly combine aggressive patents with tranquil moments. The songs are ear-catching and have an impact on the listener.
Perfect music for concert madness!
