Bomb Cats just debunked my theory of Punk Rock straying away from the traditional sound, with more bands preferring a Poppier take on Rock. If I was from Indianapolis, I would have never made such a statement as the region is ruled by Bomb Cats and their distinct classic Rock-and-roll sound – almost like a refreshing take on Ramones. Their latest release – “Third Street Melody” shows their prowess as a unit and how well they take on this almost saturated genre.
Comprising of 5 tracks, the album starts with the title track – “Third Street Melody”. Perhaps the best way to kick off the album, as it stays my favourite song from this album. Reason being the catchy deliverence and an almost perfect instrumentation to go with it. While my interest is entirely not in the Punk Rock genre, this song was addictive enough to have me put it on repeat! A good start, for sure! “Dance Miss D” is another track that reinforced the style that Bomb Cats are going for!
One specific thing I noticed was how the band is blending the classic elements with a modern touch. Yes, you won’t find electronic breaks – but you will find certain section that hover around Power Pop. But even if you don’t take the genre distinction into consideration – you will definitely notice how unique certain sections of the songs are.
Chris Farrell, and Russ Webster heading the vocals, the instrumentation side is well led by Colin Nulty who packs a punch in every song with his toe-tapping beats, and James Williams – always having something on every track to relish. Perhaps one of the strongest Punk Rock albums I have listened to this year, “Third Street Melody” is definitely for all those who are into Rock, and Metal. If you need something new for your playlist – this is the one you should be listening to!
