Here is my next meeting with Catalan music and here is their fifth album… By the way, the strange matter! I have always believed (as a Pole) that when a Polish band sings in Polish, it is closed to the world. And in the case of bands other than English-speaking, I found that a foreign language gives the band originality, a specific atmosphere. It is indeed a strange approach to the matter, subjective, but that is my opinion.
And this is the case with VIDRES A LA SANG, which sings in Catalan, which means that this language, also derived from Latin, gives the whole even more darkness and a kind of magical mystery. The more because the vocalization is understandable, even if there are screams and growlings, and even very emotional, dark and demonic melodeclamations, which for me, for a layman of the Catalan language, are associated with some magic spells, because as you know many medieval magic spells were a mixture of Latin with native languages…
I have the impression that musically the band VIDRES A LA SANG slightly deviated from their course, on more winding trails. Yes, predatory and gloomy mid-tempo compositions with aggressive bursts or melodic (even doom-black-metal) slowdowns, with a dirty (almost underground) sound of the guitars still form the basis.
Also, I don’t know if it’s the influence of the Iberian Peninsula or my subjective attitude, but I can’t get over the slight similarity to MOONSPELL at times, only in some considerations. At times, a similar mood appears… Dark, mystical, predatory, somehow warlike (as evidenced by powerful percussion passages)… Moreover, the percussion often creates interesting rhythmic twists. You can feel a progressive approach to composing it (maybe even some jazz foundations). All in all, the bassist does not stand out from the drums, as it is clearly audible that he is no stranger to Jazz Fusion. But why? Could Jazz Fusion and Progressive Metal be foreign to Martin Méndez (bassist of OPETH)?!…
The compositions are dominated by black-metal breaths, although their melodic and way of arrangement speak strongly for Post Black Metal, which at times goes hand in hand with Pogressive Metal, and even with Post Rock (especially some melodies). The last track “Ara és demà” reaches the apogee of “Progressive” and “Post” influences, thus becoming the best track on this short album for me.
Everything was recorded, produced, mixed and mastered by vocalist Eloi Boucherie at his Farm Of Sounds studio.
“Fragment De L’Esdeveni” is a very emotional combination of controled aggression with melancholic melodies, which strongly influences for emotions.
