India is known for its rich culture and heritage. But what’s less talked about in India is its growing Progressive music scene. You have Rishabh Sen fusing Sitar with Metal through his “Mute the Saint” project, and bands like “Skyharbor” and “Demonic Resurrection” already making names for themselves in the local circuit. Heck, “Bloodywood” even played Wacken recently – popularising India in the metal scene! Recently one such project that has all it takes to headline such big European festivals, caught my attention. “Ioish”, the Progressive Metal band based out of the capital city of Delhi recently released a new single ” What You Need It For”, boy it’s everything I needed right now! – fresh music with delicious drumming.
The song starts slow, almost like something you would find in a Post-Rock album opener. However, as soon as Shantanu Sudarshan puts his stick to use – it just transcends to a whole new level. The ghost notes just blew me away, and they perfectly complimented the riff Vaibhav Bhutani(Guitar), Saksham Gupta(Guitar) and Nikhil Rufus Raj(Bass) put together. What makes this song even better is the inclusion of Meredith Moore. A very wise move to make use of horns for this track. You take the horns out, it’s a normal Progressive Metal, but with the horns, it sounds unique. After listening to this track I went on to listen to “Radiance” which has this Muse-Esque (“Madness”) intro that blasts into a prog madness once the drums and other instruments ate incorporated(roughly the last 1 and a half minutes).
The song is roughly 5 minutes, and after you sit through it once you will definitely be left wanting more. If so, do listen to their previous single “Radiance”, which along with this one would be a part of their upcoming album “In Waves”, which I really looking forward to. Because two tracks down, I am in a situation to choose which one is better.
