Once upon a time in Spain there was HIS ANXIETY… They existed for 10 years until 2022… They changed the name to HER ANXIETY… And it looks like they released their first album under this name…
To be honest, I have mixed feelings about HER ANXIETY’s music. If I listened to this album 10-15 years ago, I would say that they play quite good and original… Guitar-melodic, but also guitar-mighty… As befits Metalcore (with “djent” influences)… Predatory, hard and impetuous music… And at the same time sometimes climatic, spatial… melancholic… Generally speaking, very contemporary… And above all, there is female growling (with a demonic, higher sound characteristic of women, but also with different colors)… And the very interesting contrast is the male, singing, melodious vocal, which reveals in strategic moments (maybe it’s the choruses… easily catchy phrases), sometimes together with a female growl… Although I have the impression that the male singing should be better a bit in terms of cleanness of sounds.
The melody of the album is also bipolar… One pole is created by fast, dynamic guitar riffs and solos (similar to the style presented in Melodic Death Metal, saturated with virtuoso classicism) and very energetic keyboard-synthesizer melodies building a somewhat cosmic and fairy-tale atmosphere … And the other pole is represented by spatial guitar-keys melodies, calm guitar passages… deepening the mood of the album.
The music is very emotional… Emotions are powerful, especially in Aida’s vocals and crushing guitar riffs enhanced by powerful drums beats that reflect anger and aggression. In turn, the singing of a bandmate along with calmer guitar and synthesizer melodies reflects melancholy…
Everything is ok, correct and in its place, it’s nice to listen to it, but there is one problem… It is another band playing Contemporary Metal (or if you prefer – Metalcore) that I have the opportunity to hear (also from Spain, also from Art Gates Records) and they are all very similar to each other…
On the other hand, these bands represent a some trend whose canons they stick to, just like a lot of bands from other extreme music genres… so in the end there is no reason to be picky.
