Sean Duffy, owner of Last Rites Promotions and Management, shared his excitement about this year’s event: “Our inaugural edition last year was a fantastic success! We’re thrilled to return to the vibrant neighborhood of Avondale, which Time Out has named one of the most buzzing areas in the world. This year, we’re ecstatic to welcome our headliners: Friday night will feature Chicago’s own doom masters, Bongripper, delivering their signature wall-shaking heaviness, alongside Pelican, the legendary post-metal band known for their atmospheric and powerful sound that transcends genres. The lineup also includes support from Wraith (who recently hit the Billboard Top 200), Avernus (returning after nine years with a new record), and Motherless (from Atlas Moth).
Saturday’s headliner is the legendary Earth Crisis, joined by special guests Jasta and the grindcore supergroup EarthBurner. The Crosses will perform a special all-“Die Kreuzen” set featuring the incredible Dan Kubinski on vocals—definitely a must-see! Usurper will also make their long-awaited return for their first show in five years, with Masonic Wave kicking off the night.
Sunday promises an unforgettable finish with Cynic making their much-anticipated return to Chicago, accompanied by special guests Pissing Razors. We had the privilege of promoting Cynic’s first shows in the city back in the ’90s, so this feels like a full-circle moment. We’ll also host a rare set from black metal legends Profanatica, along with Putrid Pile, fresh off a packed show at Live Wire. The Skull will make a special appearance with a set dedicated to Trouble fans, and Lurid, alongside “Heavy Local” 2023 winners Exegesis, will open the show.
Dave Hornyak and Sean Duffy embody the indie spirit in the music industry, standing in stark contrast to Live Nation/AEG/JAM. They’re two passionate guys committed to supporting the metal community. Sean began his journey 40 years ago with Last Rites, and this marks the start of his 40th year—over 4,700 shows booked and promoted under his belt! He has remained true to his indie roots throughout, promoting iconic acts like Nirvana, White Zombie, Pantera, and many more. Dave Hornyak, the creator of Live Wire Lounge, has been deeply involved in the metal scene for over 30 years, both as a drummer in various bands and as a host for countless local and national acts at Live Wire since 2011.”
