NIHIL EYES was founded in 2016 in Bradford. The line-up is created – except for two Englishmen – by my compatriot Szymon Ogiello, who previously, as Mogway played drums in Polish bands VOMIGOD and VISCERAL INFECTION, performing death-metal / grindcore. Before the discussed album, the English trio released only a four-tracks demo in 2016, in digital form.

The “Black Path” cover is interestingly made, using a white line on a black background. The picture shows a swarm of insect-like creatures and demons. The music on the disc is brutal death metal, which in places is replaced with fragments of strong doom metal, and the last song can be described as climatic. Death metal is most often motorized, sometimes a fast automatic drum-bass is activated for a short time, the other instruments are connected to this speed and the music becomes as grindcore. The doom metal component of the composition mainly consists of interweaving the heaviness and some faster parts. The crowning song “Manifesto” stands out in style from the others songs, there mood and melancholy atmospheres prevail in it, although there is an aggressive moment, in another place a heavy and powerful fragment, the ending is the voices of playing children somewhere outdoors.

The most step out musician is the guitarist, he can play aggressively, also sad and melancholy, heavy, he makes an interesting solos, all the time his melodies are attracting attention. The vocal is varied, in addition to the typical death-metal singing, it was also used desperate, fierce, spoken on the radio. The bass and the drums have their moments, besides they play correctly. The band also wove a compilation of fragments of radio programs, buzzing flies, shortness of breaths.

The numbers on the “Black Path” are not reckless, the musicians do not make mistakes but on the CD is missing something. Music is not only sounds, it’s also a “spirit” and I do not find this spirit, expressive emotions influencing the listener. Artistic work is a thorny path, NIHIL EYES has a chance to grow up on subsequent releases. Despite the above remarks, “Black Path” is not a failure.
