BARBARIAN SWORDS was founded 9 years ago in Barcelona. They publishing output is quite large: one demo, two full-length albums, one live album and 4 way split with JUDASWEGE, MORIBUNDO and SӦNAMBULA. The Spaniards describe their music style as black / doom metal, but I would call it psychedelic, extreme black metal with doom-metal elements.
The album is dominated by fast, aggressive music, but played and sung strangely, just psychedelically. I don’t know if the Barcelona people are taking any drugs or such is their nature.
They play with huge passion, such intensity of emotions is rare in a music. An extremely expressive and committed vocalist brings a lot to the band’s message. The guitarist plays awesome sounds. The drummer gives hot atmosphere. Interesting intros and inserts emphasize the unearthly mood of the album.
The band is leaded by hatred and contempt for the Savior and his followers. Individual songs – despite the unambiguous style – have their own individual characteristics. There are extremely fast fragments, also more rhythmic, psychedelic, also played in the doom-metal convention. The track “Cerebros Destruidos” is a cover-song of the punk-rock band ESKORBUTO, popular in Spain and Spanish-speaking countries. The version of BARBARIAN SWORDS does not resemble the original, which is a short, melodic rock song. Black-metalheads from Barcelona have created an extensive, mixing black-metal with doom-metal track, anti-commercial song.
The whole album lasts only 25 minutes, but contains a condensed attack of psychosis, aggression and chaos. It’s black metal without swank, full of passion and possession. Despite this, you can hear that the musicians are having fun playing this music.
