HUMAN ABSTRACT – Interview with Danny Carwile

I had the opportunity to check out a band from Atlanta, GA called Human Abstrakt. These guys are soon to be one of the hottest metal bands in GA. With there agressive power and enraged lyrics these guys are sure to be satisfy your craving for some pure heavy metal. I got the chance to chat with Danny Carwile the singer and here's what we got:

How did the band form and who are the members ?

We started around the summer of '99. Mark was trying to put something together and the band ended up being in a kind of progressive vein with lots of guitar shredding and 80's-style vocals and such. There were way too many people involved. By the time Human Abstrakt really took shape as a band, however, we were down to guitar, bass, drums, and keyboards. We were doing a lot of black metal stuff in the vein of Dimmu Borgir. We only recorded a two song demo from this material (floating around out there somewhere).

After a while of playing out locally, our keyboardist left and we ended up as a three piece. Without the keyboards in the band, it gave us a lot of room to get more heavy, so we just went with that.

Are there plans of any regional touring in support of the new album “Psychological Blindness”?

Since we don't have a label or any promotional support, we can't really justify a “tour” per se, but we are continually playing shows. We just try to get out there as much as possible. We sell our CDs at shows and also over the internet – those are our two biggest marketing outlets.

When the band started it was more of a Black Metal project, now your music is more of strait up Heavy Metal. Where do you think your direction will go from here, and is this the line-up that you think will be know as Human Abstrakt?

The music that we have written since the release of “Psychological Blindness” has become a bit more technical and more brutal. I expect we'll continue creating these songs that evoke a sense of frantic anger and confusion.

Our line-up will probably remain constant. We've tried many times to add other members (especially a second guitarist), but we haven't found anyone with both the musicianship and the dedication that is needed for this band.

How is the metal scene in ga and how much do you think your fan base has grown since “Psychological Blindness”?

There are a lot of great bands coming up right now in the Atlanta area, but the biggest problem is getting people to support the scene. Nobody comes out to shows unless there's a big (signed) band playing. We try to support the good bands around here, and they do the same for us, but the general population is rather apathetic towards the locals.

The release of “Psychological Blindness” has helped us reach a much broader audience than we have ever had. Because of the positive reviews we've received and the little bit of airplay we've had, we're selling CDs all over the world from our website and through amazon.com. Because we don't have much of a budget for touring, this gives people a chance to hear our music without waiting for us to get to their town. Locally, we still struggle to get people to the shows, but we are always working hard to put on the best show possible to give people more of a reason to check us out.

What's the next step and what are you hoping to get out of “Psychological Blindness”?

We plan to continue writing new material, performing live, and recording. Our goal is to reach as many people as possible and give them something different to listen to. Hopefully we can encourage others to use music as their artistic outlet so that new and interesting original groups can come together to create a richer music scene.
