Whose was the idea to create such project?
Marthrum: The creator of project HD is Nahald. The idea sprang up after departure of Nahald from Nocturn, where we played together. However before HD became this, what it is today, HD underwent many changes. The name of the band has changed and planned line-up and even the musical borders of Hesperus will be oscillate. The idea that music will come into being with huge part of computer and electronics is always solid.
Nahald: In the end of working in NOCTURN in my head sprang up the idea for the new form of musical expression. Just the idea of rise of HESPERUS DIMENSION partly was the reason my departure from NOCTURN. When the later line-up of NOCTURN did not survive, then the option to Marthrum added to HD appeared. And my plan got down to work.
On your website I have seen the three members? Present line-up of band are: Nahald – vocals, synthesizers, FX, programming as well as Marthrum – guitar and synthesizers I don't know, maybe the line-up have been change. Who is this third man on the photo?
Marthrum: This mysterious guest is Zvierzak, he plays in Noizzer. He records for us parties of bass guitar, which in majority of material is alive. He found on the photo because he had accompanied us in photo session. I hope that all men playing thereon materials will meet once and we will make common photo.
Nahald: Zvierzak is the session bass player, he has not the influence on shape of the music. He arranges parties of the bass under our direction, it is possible to hear in HD. We invited him to common photo session, because he played in every track of HD and he lives in Danzig.
When I would want to tell someone country of HESPERUS DIMENSION, I would have to tell two countries – Poland and the USA. Can you tell me about this vagueness?
Marthrum: This is some misunderstanding. We are from Poland and except Baard we are legally and emotionally connected with this country .
Nahald: The trunk of our band lives in Danzig, we are Poles. Perhaps the misunderstanding is connected with the matter – in summer of 2005 I lived in the USA for some time. The truth is that however Sasza lives in Australia, and Faust lives in Norway.
What does creation of tracks look? Do you meet in rehearsal or maybe do you send yourselves the working versions of tracks?
Marthrum: In our case the rehearsals are impossible. The working versions of composition come into being at Lorak's home studio where we assemble our ideas in the whole and we record the working versions. We record the preliminary guitars or the parties of keys for the next instruments, tracks, etc. Often, saying actors' language – it is tailor.
Nahald: The parties of guitars in main part come into being in privacy of Marthrum. Earlier circumstances were that we played together something like rehearsal. But this did not last long, nor they weren't regular meetings. At present our creative case joins with remembered Lorak, at which we struggle ourselves with ideas. We do not send for us working versions of the tracks, but after every record session we rehear current versions of our tunes. This permits for larger distance as well as makes possible us finishing up next aspects resulting after the opinion these recordings.
The material “Mental Electricity” come into being from 2001 to 2005. Why did so long? Just this are 4 pieces only
Marthrum: Like already I remembered the principle was that the music will be based on electronics in considerable degree. Earlier we played in regular band with full crew and creating music in computer was strange for us. We needed change ourselves entirely and to dedicate many time for experiments. The composing tunes did not occupy too much time, however the recorded versions of these tunes was lots. Today analyzing the next stages which we conquered, the dedicated time was indispensable. One should also to add, that Lorak played huge part here, he also play in Nocturn. Captured experiences at work over their projects improved works over material HD considerably and gave suitable quality.
Nahald: Many things influenced for period when the complete recordings could be introduced wider. Having everyday many duties and different mundane matters, the music HD went out from us naturally. We did not feel any pressure of time nor pressure to go in settled previously timeframes. Earlier in several interviews I underlined that we first of all sorted our the best ideas, and these require time to would appears in such form. The quality is important for us, we don't care regular spitting out average recordings.
In spite of all the music is total! What did you inspire to the creation full of darkness and futurism?
Marthrum: When we played in different bands we had many ideas, which did not be use by different reasons: technical limitations, compromises, individual musicians' tastes. In Hesperus it had be differently. We realized many, sometimes mad conceptions, which could not appear theoretically as unity. However we did not give up with our roots, that is black metal, which perfectly fit in electronic solutions. The every together gave the interesting and ill-boding climate.
Nahald: I thank you for compliments. In my case the inspirations come from many sources. I still look for little-knew subjects for texts, general conception. If I mean about the our music, this is with certainty promiscuity and connection of many opposed musical subjects, but in such construction to it gave us the effect and the self-satisfaction. We have pretty rigorously approach to own ideas, therefore many more surprising solutions will appear many times with certainty. I do not feel need to exert myself for originality, but with certainty this what we do is innovatory in some degree, maybe it isn't in world scale, but with certainty Polish scale.
Resoluteness the music of HESPERUS DIMENSION I would recommend for fans of EMPERROR, THE KOVENANT, ARCTURUS, MORTIIS or SAMAEL!!! And for who do you direct your works?
Marthrum: HD is for people open for new sounds, for seekers and collectors The bands which you mentioned are not strange for us and their works inspired us by many years and further inspires with no doubt. However I would not like to address so exactly because this is not end of our experiments and searches. Surely , in the music of HD, fans black metal, movie music, rock foundling something for themselves . We will see.
Nahald: The interesting question… I do not want to generalize with certainty, to new listeners did not suggest mentioned groups. The bands do not mark the direction of exploration in realization HD. I agree with Marthrum, that the bands inspired us but I don't think completely the bands influenced on the character of the music.
Industrial metal or cyber black metal? Does your music define new direction for present black metal?
Marthrum: We do not try to frame ourselves some style, nor I do not think, that we play things, which nobody ever played. I think that every respecting band aims to creation own's unique style, and different thinking will bring boredom and self-destruction. The new direction ? I hope, he he
Nahald: In some sense these expressions have reflection this what we create. Although in time of thinking and composing there have not speeches to would fit oneself stylistically in whichever musical species. Our sounds sail out spontaneously and naturally from us, and that exactly such quality is good for us, because we know the borders of materialization our ideas. However this is not rule, the many elements goes out accidentally or under moment. This very comfortable situation for us. I know many bands which they got lost in false created foundations.
You invited several musicians to co-operation in recording of the material. There was Bard G. Eithun (ex-EMPERROR, SCUM, ABORYM, BLOOD TSUNAMI). What was his part?
Marthrum: On the mini CD “Mental Electricity” Baard recorded for us the voices in track “Trough Drowsy Daydreams”, but it isn't all. We have the plans recording in studio, where Baard will record the drums on album, which is in time of composition.
Nahald: I reacted with great joy and satisfaction on message, that Faust is interested in the music of HD. This was great ennoblement and distinction with certainty. But we aren't conceited with this reason. We wait for more far effects of common work over tracks which will appear on the debut. I think that shuffle organic drums with automatic percussive will be interesting composition.
There also was Raaf (MESS AGE, PAINFUL JOY), Lorak and Zvierzak (ex-GHOST, NOIZZER), he have occupied the parties of bass there You had the nice and obviously experienced team there . How did you encourage the men to common playing? The majority of them gives in different bands.
Marthrum: Obviously the great money he he. It's the joke. We know ourselves many years, we live in the same city, common concerts and bands simply, we knew who ask when we will need suitable music. We introduced our hitherto exist compositions and the majority desire to join. The bands of these back-scratchers also are experimental, we intrigued them and understood. This is the whole secret.
Nahald: In time of realization of the recordings places appeared where one should use persons' potential from outside. We wanted to broadcast larger specific and climate our compositions. Then we looked round for persons who was able to seize this atmosphere. We knew these persons and we easily understand with them. Their shares with certainty raised value of differentiation of vocals.
And what did Sasza Janowicz (Australian actor) do there ?
Marthrum: I know Sasza from times of Nocturn yet. Nahald knows him from times of studies in Slupsk yet, where they made the friends. Nah coaxed into him a lot of earlier to co-operation. We recorded his vocals on demo of Nocturn. At that time we had the weakness for clean vocals and the color of voice, diction and the talent musical of Sasza charmed us. Frequent visits in Poland mesh with our recordings, so it will be possible to record more singings yet, it make me very glad.
Nahald: Sasza is the unusually creative and talented person. I knew perfectly before proposed him common musical plans, that him unparalleled voice will be subtle counterweight of my vocal. Sasza knows perfectively English, he's the teacher of English and actor. The connection of both professions make him very good prepared musician to challenges what places before him co-operation with Hesperus Dimension. He is able to incredibly accurately express one's matter by suitable transition and emission of vocal. I'm glad that we can work with so interesting person continually. Everyday Sasza resides in Australia where is fulltime actor at National Theatre in Brisbane.
What was subjects use in your texts?
Marthrum: We decided to go out from “hells” and to occupy oneself subject matter more mundane, human, different glance. We occupied oneself a man with “dirty mind”, intelligent but he often isn't it accepted by social sterile hypocrisy. Bad is good, good is bad, does who estimates this? Mentally ill, incapable to existence? Where? In our world, the society, a way of perception? Where in this case does he have find one's place, otherness? We do not answer for the questions because we do not know answers, but the questions are and it is proper write about them.
Nahald: In spite of that we do not use concept, it with certainty is possible to mention several fundamental factors decide about content of lyrics of HD. Surely they are dilemmas, confounds and human dependences. We dont write about religious and ideological matters. We try more to use symbols, eclectic phrasing, to simultaneously link to character of music. Some idea sprang up on study of new texts recently. In support about the idea we hope to seize pretty strongly covered secret question. Unfortunately I wouldn't like betray the idea…
Does your music join with some concrete ideology?
Marthrum: An ideology we would like to divide, but we wouldn't like to throw on. You will make conclusions. Think. We exposed oneself to creating sound, the content-related side is the secondary thing.
Nahald: I do not think to any ideology acted meaning in HESPERUS DIMENSION. We try to be more universal, than prop up ourselves commonplace subjects. Maybe they are interesting in one's way, but we do not feel no need to restrain by them. Music is our passion, the music flows from our hearts. We do not use the music as carrier of hidden meanings less or more…
The cover is your authorship. I'm impressed. Is this woman any symbol?
Marthrum: The cover is working version. It functioned very briefly. The official cover for the mini CD is different completely. I think that the official cover ideally portrays central idea of our compositions. It shows the hands in different gestures in background of dirty forms, tiles.
Nahald: Thank you again for nice words for our address. In fact this distorted woman was only supplementary etiquette. It never was speech about target use this cover. Today I think that it was too direct, enough trite and aggressive. Though at that time I wanted to so just corresponded with the music of HD. Recently I created new, complete graphic garment to remembered publication. In relationship of so poor the line-up I have the question about concerts. Your compositions are ideal on shows There are moments where fans can jump sharply or have headbanging and also are moments, in which the music rocks or draws in emotional whirl.
Marthrum: Unfortunately, but as yet the concerts are not in plan. Prepare compositions, realization as well as the line-up excludes playing on-live and not saying about equipment to reproduction the material in such version in what was record. As yet the project is typically studio, and concerts were pushed away on background.
Nahald: There has not technically possibility to HD would go to life of concert for a moment present. This does not make for us essential matter in this stage. We are fully absorbed the works over debut album. We later will think about chances of existence on the stage performances.
I could not find the meanings of word “hesperus”
Marthrum: The brightest object in the sky, beyond the sun and moon, is Venus. Venus is named morning star (when is sunrise then Venus appears in the east) or the vesper (it's visible in the west near sunset). In antiquity the vesper was called just Hesperus, and the morning star – Phosphorus or Lucifer.
Thanks for allowing this very short interview! To the end l would like hear something about your plans for future Maybe do you work for something?
Marthrum: We work for new album. There are lots ideas cashable. New discoveries. We are in time of compositions and we dedicate our whole free time just for this. We look for label to will release our first sterling album. We realize next experimental solutions, which with certainty will be audible in new tracks and will give for HD new dimension. I also thank you for your time.
Nahald: I thank you for promotion of HD. Finishing up the album is the most important thing now, then we plan to record it in suitable studio conditions. Publisher's matters are open continually, however about details is too early to informing.
