After 15 in the deepest depths of the underground and after having had their sick records banned in several countries the US band Macabre has built up a serious cult status in the international Death Metal scene. The Dutch 'Hammerheart' label (currently operating under the name Karmageddon Media) gave them their first breakthrough by releasing their previous album 'Dahmer' world wide. Since then it has become nigh on impossible for any serious (European) metal fan to have missed one of the myriad shows they gave on festivals and small venues. This of course all compounded to add even more to their popularity.
That same period also saw the release of the MCD titled 'Morbid Campfire Songs' under the name of 'Macabre Minstrels' with truly hilarious campfire songs in true Macabre style; full of humor and lugubrious texts. This can also be said about their latest 'Murder Metal'. Corporate Death, The Manace and Nefarious do what we have grown to love; fun, gore and sickness. This time round the album does not center around a specific murderer but is more of a retrospective of sorts of many of the world famous murderers. Hence the title…..
The album offers quite a lot, fast deathmetal riffs, childish rhymes, the hysterical vox and of course the massive 'sing along' factor. It's nothing earth shattering but it's fun and energetic. I am sure that many of these new songs will become audience favorites during live shows. 'Murder Metal' is a typical Macabre record, nothing more and nothing less. It is a good starting point if you would like to get into their sick little world or if you have a good though twisted sense of humor.
