Cool Songs: Heavy Artillery and The Triangle

After 18 years of silence, Destructor has resurfaced from the depths of the Ohio metal underground to once again kick your ass into submission. Sonic Bullet is first collection of new material since 1985’s “Maximum Destruction” which to date is the bands only full-length album.

Destructor’s latest effort “Sonic Bullet,” continues to produce the same simple yet powerful power metal that “Maximum Destruction” made them famous for. The album starts right off the bat with a title track that reminds you Destructor can still kick your ass. Light sounds of thunder prelude thunderous guitars, drums, and vocals that will carry you throughout the entire track. Next in line comes “Heavy Artillery,” which to me is the best track on the album. Smooth guitars and drums mix quite well with Dave Overkills outstanding ability to radiate his vocals at different levels throughout the entire song. Another track that stands out is “The Triangle”; the guitars in this song remind me of the guitars in the first two seconds of Deicide’s “ Bastard of Christ”. Pounding Evil and Iron Curtain are the two live tracks that bring “Sonic Bullet” to a close. Both of these songs are prime examples of Destructor’s excellent ability to play live.

Sonic Bullet is one of the finest examples of what power metal can sound like when done right. Destructor has proven to all of their fans with this album that no matter what happens they are here to stay. This CD is pure and simple a must have item for all fans of metal.
