“Instinct” is the sixth release from the Hungarian band, Ektomorf, and is a furious assault of heavy melodic Thrash with speedy rhythms. In the vein of Soulfly and Sepultura, at times you might think this is Max himself. I never thought I could ever hear someone as Max-like as Zoltan. Max Cavalera is a metal god and this is as close as you can get to the man himself. Being a Max and Sepultura/Soulfly fan, I'm lovin' this shiiiaatt!!!!!
“Set Me Free” sets a pounding melodic rhythm to start and the Cavalera-like vocals and death screams set the tone for an ass kicking, Hungarian style. The lyrics are also ethnic – related a la Max. “Show Your Fist” is a heavy stomper as is the title track “Instinct”. The accent is so Max it's incredible. From the “uhhhhhs” to the “Muthafuckas”, it's Max and Zoltan has become one of my favorites. Brutal Death vocals rule!! “Burn” picks up the speed with a Sepultura Thrash and “The Holy Noise” is a fist pumping headbanger.
Speedy, thrashy Death is the anger fueled “Fuck You All” and “United Nations”, as well as “Land Of Pain”, bring the ethnic, tribal-like feel of the Max projects. “Break You All” and “You Get What You Give” are my favorite tracks. They're angry, heavy ass shiiiiiaaattttt. Trading pounding rhytms with good, speedy melodic Death/Thrash. “Until The End” and “I Will” end off with some good Soulfly-like anger fueled brutality, but by this time your ready to end the Max comparisons. These guys have been stompin' around Europe for over a decade and themselves stand on their own. Simply, Ektomorf kicks freakin' ass!!! They have a new release forthcoming called “Outcast”, due out in late 2006. Can't wait for that!!
