Cool songs: More Than You Will Ever Know, Burn For You, Rare Blue Sky

In 2001/2002 Tim Walker from Voltage Records came up with another brilliant idea, to record another album with some of the groups he is looking after. This time he has chosen seven bands. Aural Quagmire is the effect of their work.

Definitely in most of cases there is no way to speak about metal music, or any other kind, strictly related to it. This album is a compilation of rock, hard rock, indie or even some other stuff, that people would have the problem to name and count. This CD contains everything, for example a delicate guitar pop in IDIOT BOX “Speedophile” (the title suggests something else). This sounds just like any other “newborn star” of alternative rock present on the British scene. A slight change in style appears in PURITY CRIES’s “Calibre”. It is heavier, but still, there is that impression, that we’ve all heard it before… somewhere, somehow. In DARWIN’s “More Than You Will Ever Know” things are back on the soft track and everything loses the pace, becomes lazy. There is no power, no guts… no nothing. But still, this is one of the better compositions. Nice guitar play, pleasant lyrics bring back the old memories, about the good old MARILLION. WORM’s “Hate” is one of the heaviest composition, but again, it has no style, it is like a drunk guy’s yelling the rest is a swing, from guitar pop to psychedelic-sounding pop. This album is like an amoeba… without any particular character. It is simply too pop.

This compilation is something between rock and pop music. The elements of each are too weak to pull this album on one, particular side. It is good in some way, because everything is varied. It is also good for the bands, because they can promote their work. But for any other reasons, this could be summed up as a waste of time and money. It is so, because there is nothing special or original.
