LOD was created in 2000 by two friends who known each other since they were five. Now thats an outstanding friendship, which goes on for such time and creates a new being. Norbert and Andreas invited the Klader brothers and they formed Lords Of Decadence. Cognitive Note Of Discord was recorded between 2003 and 2004, and released independently in 2004 as a promotional material. In 2005, Scarlet Records decided to release this work under their label, thus the band has a label, but for some reasons the information given by some media says, that they do not have any.
LOD has been called The Best Newcomers of 2004 and I dare to disagree with this honorable title. It is because, this band proves, from their first notes, that they are a copy of CHILDREN OF BODOM and IN FLAMES. And this is the brutal truth. Of course, they are very talented musicians, the music they play is very good from the technical point of view, although the similarities with those two bands, even more to the first one, is too visible. Relationship: Erased has parts which remind of COBs Follow The Reaper. Do the people from LOD have no shame, to copy every idea in such way? Probably not, because they describe themselves as ones, who play music similar to COB. What is more, the leading vocal sounds almost exactly as the one, presented by Laiho. What saves LOD from a complete copy-disaster is the usage of another vocal, a heavier one and fleshier. The music itself is quite cool, the powerful and heavy riffs can give a kick. The drums are also mixed very well. But everything was heard before, and I do not have to repeat where. The keyboards are the last straw: they carry the most of melodic lines, but they sound just like COBs. And this reinforces the copy-paste impression; in Double-Edged Razortongue (association to COBs Bed/War Of Razors??) the keyboard lines sound like taken out from STRATOVARIUS. And thats it. No more mister nice guy this thing has got to get out!
Cognitive Note Of Discord could have been a good album, but the similarity to CHILDREN OF BODOM simply disqualifies it as something new and kills the potential emotions the music fans could have had. In other words, Lords Of Decadence are the best Xerox machine Ive ever knew.
note: 2/10
