Music: Gothic/Doom Metal
Website: http://www.sabachthani.org
Country: Sweden
Cool songs: Christabels Journey, The Skull of an Angel, Skarlet Industries
The band started out in 2002 but under a different name, which was WELTSCHMERZ, and recorded three demos, and
Miserable Endings was one of them. As SABACHTHANI they released two albums: an EP titled Six Black Horses Below (previously a demo, as WELTSCHMERZ), and finally the full-length Miserable Endings, which I have had the pleasure to hear.
Miserable Endings represent a good quality doom metal with progressive influences. The compositions are longish, very long, sometimes even a bit too long. Can really tire. The depressing mood, dominating the album is fantastic, the limited power also contributes to the whole, so the effect is quite paralyzing. Some more dynamic elements happen quite often, and are introduced by very nice and heavy drum fills, but this does not change the overall impression of loss and grief. The progressive elements also appear quite often and thus, they bring more life to the compositions, make them varied. Thanks to this addition, the songs consist of six, or even seven motifs, which are changing constantly. And only that lazy sound sometimes annoys, forces to push the next button.
And so it is – an ideal proposition for all doom metal fans, and my humble person. By listening to this album, you will hear the essence of the pure gothic sound, and finally understand, why such depressing tune, has got so many fans all over the world. It is a little poem.
