Nate Adams formed the one-man project called WORMTONGUE in 2004 and immediately started working, recording a collection of dark acoustic folk songs. That is how ‘Solitude’, the first demo came to life. After this event, a short break in the career occurred, but after this short pause Nate came back as a new man, as a symphonic black metal project. And immediately started gaining very enthusiastic comments all over America. ‘Memorial to a Golden Age’ is his second release, the first EP at the same time, released at the beginning of 2007 (some sources say it happened in 2006). Now he is working upon new material, which will be released in 2008, and it is going to be a full-length release.

This short album is like a little surprise – first of all, as for black metal is shocks with the melodic sections, which are tremendously good. The opening ‘The Passing of Autumn’ is a one man symphony, sounding astonishingly. Although it is a two-motifs composition, of low sound quality (it is audible, that Nate has worked totally alone)it is still damn-enjoyable. The acoustic ‘Children of Ilúvatar’ or the intro to ‘Artifacts of the Great Race of Yith’ are also surprising and show, that Nate really respects the noble role and sound of the guitar, and does not use them only to produce butchery. The compositions vary, sometimes they have a quite jolly and poetic climate. Especially the mentioned acoustic intro, as it allows the listener to feel the beauty of sound and leads him straight into the black abyss. And thanks to those sounds, this journey is not a painful Via Dolorosa, but a broad and cobbled path. When the black demon drags the listener off this track, terrible pain and shock appear – and this is the beauty of this music. It is like Jack the Ripper, jumping at you from around the corner, stabbing you with his sharp dagger – the sound of cut air is caught in Nate’s music.

Short, raw and pleasurable. This record has got black heart and soul, and shows that a lot of work has been put into it. Work, which will be appreciated by the metal fans. It is one of the most interesting black metal releases of the last year. And one last, quite interesting thing – everyone can download WORMTONGUE songs in mp3 format, from his profile at MySpace.
