INDESPAIR (some time ago known as DESPAIR) is a very young creation (born in 2003) of Daniel CormaC Bartosik and Sergiusz Serek Ciskowski. Five years of performance, five short years, and eight musicians went through the band. Finally, as the line up consolidated, the band entered a studio and since January we can listen to their newest EP titled No Escape.
Damn! Now that is a heavy metal blast! To put the long story short, the music is very interesting. Finally there is a band which continues the greatest traditions of the worlds heavy metal. First of all, the sound is pretty authentic. You may argue that there is some IRON MAIDEN or MEGADETH, and I will tell you that you are so damn right, because there are millions of little pieces of every heavy metal band that has ever existed. The gentlemen from INDESPAIR seem to use an eclectic approach in creating their own style and it appears that they have succeeded. It is so, because their music is authentic, straight from the heart and does not contain any elements of shit, there is not time for repetition, the compositions are varied, motifs change all the time and riffs crush the balls. The sound is raw and aggressive, with a huge dose of sweet melody embellished with the rudeness of thrash (excellent Virus), brought to you by the invincible CormaC and Serek. Not to mention the really fleshy bass parts by Wojciech Fojcik and ultra fast drum fills by Łukasz. Everything works like in a perfect machinery, every little wheel, every part seems to be perfect. One thing bothers and that is the vocal – Piotr does his best and copes with the high parts well, although sometimes it is audible that his voice is a bit forced. And the technicians seem to overemphasized the high tones. I have to mention that those slight problems appear only when he sings in English – the situation changes in Polish Nie Widział Nikt and Głową w Dół, where he proves that his skills are of the highest value. From the technical point of view the material is very good: if the musicians can produce such a beauty on their own, I just cannot wait to hear them on their first full-length album, conducted by a big label and people who will take care of all that marketing and PR stuff and let the musicians finally do, what they are supposed to do: record CDs and play gigs.
No Escape is an interesting proposition to everyone who has a heavy metal tattoo on his butt. The eclectic approach is at one hand good, because allows to work out own style, although on the other hand some people may accuse the musicians of using old ideas. Well, I am in favour, as my ass is covered with heavy metal labels and I believe that the group will make it. In 2009 they plan to release a full-length material and if it is as good as this one I will tattoo their logo on my forehead, so cross your fingers, because INDESPAIR are one of better heavy metal bands which appeared on the Polish ground within the last few years. Therefore a strong and straight eight.
