GORGASM „Bleeding Profusely”
This is an album which gets straight to the point, no messing. 11 tracks in under 25 minutes doesn't give the band much time to add in many niceties.
GREEN CARNATION „A blessing in Disguise”
I haven't heard any of Green Carnation's previous stuff, but I bought this on the strength of one song. I wasn't let down as it's a cracking listen.
GRIEF OF EMERALD „Christian termination”
Grief of Emeralds previous releases were more in the black metal vein, but the first thing to greet your ears when popping this little baby in the CD tray is the intensity of the guitars. They are punishing, make no mistake about it.
FARMAKON „A Warm Glimpse”
Well, this will make a nice stop gap until the next Opeth album. This is meant entirely as a compliment to Farmakon who manage to give Opeth a run for their money whilst at the same time, throwing in more moments of madness and acoustic interludes.
DAGOBA „s/t”
Let's be honest, you can count the number of good French metal bands on the fingers of a very deformed hand. Of course, there's the excellent Scarve and Tripod and on the technical death metal side there's the underrated Carcariass, but never has a band stood a chance of success than in the case of Dagoba.
DARKNESS REMAINS „Lamia”
I first heard this group last year when they released “To touch the depths of sorrow”. This was impressive enough, but nothing prepared me for the brilliance of this new album.
DEEDS OF FLESH „Mark of the Legion”
The American brutal Death Metal scene seems to take a lot of stick, which is a crying shame, because underneath all of the crap that saturates the scene, there are some real diamonds poking their heads through, who produce some downright brutal music. In my opinion, Deeds of Flesh are one of those bands.
DEEDS OF FLESH „Reduced To Ashes”
I eagerly await a new Deeds Of Flesh album as much as a new Katatonia or Opeth – such is the effect they have on me. Their music tends to be able to reach the parts other groups just can't reach.
DEICIDE „Scars of the crucifix”
When I first heard that Deicide had signed to Earache over a year ago, I was expecting great things from them. And I mean great things.
DISGORGE „Consume the Forsaken”
Here in the UK, it is difficult enough to get hold of underground releases such as this let alone find reviews of them. There is a market for it, so why isn't there any promotion in the magazines? People are missing out on some superb exercises in brutality and sometimes I wonder whether I am the only one who listens to it.
