YOUR SHAPELESS BEAUTY „My Swan Song”
A pleasant surprise is how I would call this third record that the band came up with. I haven't heard anything yet, that comes near this extraordinarily original sort of music, it's a strange kind of mix between doom and black metal.
FORGOTTEN TOMB „Springtime Depression”
Good songs: Try not to look at this as individual songs, but more as a one long track
.
BLODSRIT „Ocularis Infernum”
Many disgust symphonic black metal around, which is so numerous nowadays. Therefore, loads of bands claim to still make the good old, raw, tormenting black metal of the Darkthrone kind.
ZYKLON „Aeon”
Good songs: every song has its moments, you don't want to listen to any particular songs, but to the entire album instead, this is caused by the record's more atmospheric structure
.
WOODS OF YPRES „Against The Seasons”
Good songs: The album should be looked at as if it were one long song, which really is a good one
.
WIND OF THE BLACK MOUNTAINS „Black Sun Shall Rise”
Good songs: Hard to Choose, I guess I'll go for Bride Of Lucifer or Bleed For Thy Sins then
.
SATYRICON „Volcano”
Satyricon was among those bands that sort of created black metal, and now they signed for the Virgin label, trying to bring their music to the mass media. But be honest, what do they care about extreme metal? Nothing.
SLAYER „Reign In Blood”
Of course Slayer is a strange band to have on a rap label, but that made sure that a lot of people came to know the band. Slayer has always been one of the most influential thrash bands around, although they don't seem to change their style (after this album they kept on repeating themselves a bit, not like bands as Napalm Death, but still they don't change their music like other bands do).
OLD MAN'S CHILD „In Defiance Of Existence”
Could it be… That we have the best black metal release of 2003 so early on in the year??? Probably not, because Cradle Of Filth and Dimmu Borgir will release theirs later on, but this sounds GREAT…
NAGLFAR „Sheol”
Sheol is one hell of an album, fast, extreem, chaotic, and constantly blazing like hell. Somehow, Naglfar's sound immediately reminded me of Dissection, but Naglfar is definitely not a copycat.
